In 2012, Winnipeg's Mama Cutsworth started her DJ Academy, a welcoming space that teaches people the basic skills and confidence it takes to become a professional DJ. Since it began, it has seen over 135 students graduate from the program. After each season of classes, the brand new group of DJs play their first-ever gig for a live audience. Think of it as a music recital with a heck of a lot more dancing and drinks.

The DJs will be spinning classic hip hop, house, electronic, funk, disco, soul, indie rock and much more. First DJ set begins at 9 pm.

Mama Cutsworth's DJ Academy teaches adults whose genders are under-represented in the DJ world, be it cis or trans women, 2-Spirit or non-binary folks, and so on. The course welcomes anyone who self-identifies as part of this wide spectrum of gender expression.
